After a roofing career spanning decades, RC Editorial Director Rick Damato is officially retiring – for good, this time.

“My first retirement came at the end of 2016 when I exited a 32-year run in the roofing supply industry. Following more than 40 years of involvement in roofing-related trade media, I am retiring again,” Damato wrote in his final Editor’s Note.

Damato was instrumental in starting Roofing Contractor magazine. Danny Carson, owner of Lee County Metal and Roofing, established an independent trade magazine focusing on roofing contractors and brought on Damato to contribute, initially writing about roofing equipment.

Damato later became editor at large when Carson sold the magazine to another publisher. BNP Media later acquired the magazine, renaming it to Roofing Contractor in the 1990s. Damato became the editor in early 1999 and assumed the role of editorial director.

Damato continued to lend his industry insight and knowledge throughout those years, contributing on a regular basis. He helped the magazine transition to its current digital form during the COVID-19 pandemic, and in 2023, worked with BNP Media to bring a passion project to life: Roofing Supply Pro, a publication dedicated to the roofing distribution industry.

“I have been thinking about this moment for a very long time, so I find myself comfortable in it,” Damato said of his retirement.

Congratulations Rick, and a heartfelt thank you for all you’ve done to elevate the roofing industry!
