Roofing distributors continued to grow in 2022 despite supply chain shortages and economic pressures. With more locations opening throughout the nation, roofing supply companies are making the effort to better serve their customers and meet them where they’re at.

Below is a summary of new locations opened in the past year by some of the largest roofing distribution companies and groups in the nation.

SRS Distribution

In 2022, SRS Distribution opened 20 greenfield locations within its Building Products Division in 2022, enhancing its national network of independent distributors.

“We are pleased to announce the opening of 20 greenfields across our growing footprint," said Dan Tinker, president and CEO of SRS Distribution. "Thanks to the tenacious effort of our branch expansion and operations teams, our capabilities to expand in strategic markets have never been greater.”

Tinker added that greenfields are an important part of SRS’ strategy to accelerate the growth of the companies that join its family, and expects to open additional locations in 2023 and beyond.

Beacon Building Products

Beacon opened 15 greenfield branches in 2022, exceeding its original commitment to 10 for the year. In December, Beacon announced the opening of the 14th and 15th locations in Durham, N.C. and La Vergne, Tenn.

The company says this is part of its efforts to execute customer experience goals laid out in its Ambition 2025 strategy. As of publication, the most recent location opened in Baytown and suburban Fort Worth, Texas.

“We are pleased to expand Beacon’s service in Texas, where we now have 34 branches across the state and offer online business tools like our leading digital platform, Beacon PRO+,” said Peter Lippert, Beacon’s regional vice president, Texas.

In the first month of 2023, Beacon has added five new locations via greenfields and acquisitions.

ABC Supply Co. Inc.

ABC Supply Co. Inc. continued to expand its nationwide footprint in 2022 with the addition of 16 new locations throughout the U.S.

Among those locations were regions brand new to the roofing supplier, including northern Idaho and southwest Oregon. The company bolstered its presence in major roofing markets like Texas, adding its 10th location in the Lone Star State, or adding its 24th location in Pennsylvania.

“2022 was a tremendous year for ABC Supply. We increased our number of locations and expanded our footprint to include our first international branches,” said Mike Jost, chief operating officer. “We’ll continue to look for areas of strategic growth and ways to make it even easier for our customers to do business with us.”

Headquartered in Beloit, Wis., ABC Supply has nearly 900 locations across the U.S. and Canada.

IDAC

According to officials with the Independent Distributor Alliance Corporation (IDAC), its 32 members reported a total of nine new locations opening in 2022. These do not include branch openings through acquisitions.

Elite Roofing Supply, a member of IDAC, added six locations to its growing network, including branches in Texas, California, Georgia, and Arizona. Fellow IDAC member SPEC Building Materials opened new locations in Orlando, Medley, and Clearwater, Fla., bringing the total number of branches to 10 in the state.

“We are excited for the opportunities the creation of IDAC will provide our members, as we combine two strong organizations into one company,” said Doug DeWalt of IDAC in a written statement. “The strength of the member companies and the combined size of the new organization will provide additional opportunities to share best practices between members, develop and train employees and continue to work closely with key supplier partners.”
